Dive Fest SLU 2024 – Saint Lucia Diver’s Association
We are pleased to be issuing the itinerary for the 2024 Saint Lucia Dive Fest!
Please note the locations for the Opening ceremony, Closing ceremony, are tentative and there is a possibility of a different location. Confirmation on the locations will be sent out at least 3 months before the opening ceremony.
The opening of Dive Fest 2024 will also be incorporated with a career day component inviting schools to come learn about the various opportunities in our sector. We believe that this will allow people to know that besides marine biology and other scientific fields, scuba diving, boat captaining and more are great career choices.
The opening ceremony is dated for Sunday September 15th, 2024 from 2:00pm – 6:00pm at the Caribbean Cinemas (subject to change).
Clean up and Coral Planting
Clean-up (underwater/coastal) and Coral Planting:
Date: Monday September 16th, 2024.
For the clean-up, we are planning to execute both a land and an underwater clean up. With this activity, we would like to engage both divers and non-divers as well as the schools to participate in the activity.
Land location: Vigie beach, bottom of La Toc hill (banan), La Toc beach. Other feasible locations can be chosen for the convenience of other interested persons. Records will be taken for each location.
Underwater location: BoneYard, Hummingbird Beach- Soufriere and Baron’s Drive- Soufriere. Other feasible locations can be chosen by other interested dive operators/divers.
After the cleanup, everyone will be given a template to report findings of the clean up site. For eg., plastics, fishing lines, bottles, tires, etc.
The coral planting will be spearheaded by Newton Erishtee in the Soufriere region. This activity includes cleaning of trees, as well as the outplanting of the corals that are ready to be transferred to the reef. It will be done during the same time as the clean up, in that way, candidates can choose which of the activities they would like to participate in.
The activities can also be done simultaneously if dive operators choose to do so.
